When entering a well-designed room, the first thing you notice is usually the windows. The fabrics used in the windows, the colors, and the proportions will frame the view, filter the light, and tie all the furniture and finishes together. However, window treatment options are often considered last, and whatever is available is selected quickly.
The owner of Designhaus Interiors (DHI), Vera Bahou-Akruk, looks at things differently. Having worked for years on the design of interiors and customized window treatments and textiles, Vera has always approached the window first.
What Do Custom Window Treatment Services Include?
Custom window treatment services require more than just fabric cutting. They begin with getting familiar with the room itself, how much light it gets, how much privacy you want, and what purpose it serves throughout the day. Next comes the design that takes into account:
- Window dimensions and form: Large, arched, or oddly shaped windows require specific treatment.
- Light Control: Layers that will diffuse light during the day but provide privacy at night.
- Fabric: Material that will look good in the interior and be strong enough for daily use.
- Details: Hardware and trim that will give the finishing touch to your window treatments.
- Colors: Shades that will coordinate with the walls, furniture, and other accessories.
As all projects are managed personally by Vera, you can work directly with the designer who knows what you want. This way, your decisions on fabrics and styles will be more confident.
What Makes Luxury Window Treatments a Matter of Craft?
Real luxury in window treatments doesn’t involve extravagance. It’s in the way the drapery panel falls, how the print matches up, and the longevity of the fabric when exposed to light and wear. Through working with Robb & Stucky in Florida, where she concentrated on designing whole interior environments, Vera developed her eye for exquisite finish work.
DHI works with expert craftsmen, fabricators, and artisans to produce unique pieces. Each piece is custom-fit to your windows, not a modified standard size.
How Do You Choose High-End Window Treatments with Confidence?
When clients are searching for luxurious window treatments, the first question many ask is where to start. Some good initial queries to consider include:
What tone would you like your room to have—clean and sharp or more fluid?
Do you want full blackout or some light filtering?
How will your window treatment integrate with your current furnishings and color scheme?
Is your room going to change in the future?
Through Vera’s expertise in color and space planning, the window treatments become an integral part of the overall design scheme.
How Do Window Treatments Fit into a Cohesive Interior Design?
Window treatments are most effective if done in conjunction with everything else. DHI is also an expert in kitchens and baths, interior space planning, furnishings and accessories, as well as colour and finish choices. In this way, each part will complement the next, thus creating cohesive spaces.
